I'm staying in London for a few days, can anyone recommend any good Chinese or Italian restauarants that do take out? As close to Wellington as possible since I have no sense of direction lol.
THanks!

Beware of the Energy Marketers again - with bonus name change [Oct. 4th, 2009|11:31 am]
The 519 café

After my second encounter this weekend with energy marketers I felt it would be wise to share my findings.  I've had run-ins with what appears to be a new company going door to door trying to sucker get people to sign contracts for gas/hydro.

This new company is called "Just Energy", the same company that changed its name recently from Universal Energy - a company that was exposed by CBC News: Marketplace, "Power of Persuasion" earlier this year.

I want to warn folks that it looks like it's the same thing again and if someone comes to your door, please arm yourself or those they prey upon with information.  Don't show them your bill no matter what they say or who they claim to represent.  Previous incarnations of this trade such as Ontario Energy Savings, Direct Energy, etc. been caught before and from my experience the names of the company(s) change but their methods do not.

Caveat: sometimes their services may be worth it, but the tactics observed used by "Energy Marketers" going door to door are downright scammy.

August 8th - Boardgaming at the Walker Road KofC in Windsor [Jul. 22nd, 2009|11:54 am]

It has been far too long since we have had a gaming event! So this is an open invite to all Windsor and surrounding area gamers.

The Windsor Gaming Resource will be hosting an afternoon of gaming on August 8th at the Walker Road Knights of Columbus, in Windsor Ontario, from Noon until 6:00PM. This will be our 7th Games and Grub event. At previous events we played some great games including Chez Dork, Igor, Munchkin, Power Grid, Alhambra, Formula D, Bang!, Shadows Over Camelot, El Grande, Settlers of Catan, Hacienda and Bohnanza.

We will have access to 2-3 large tables that should fit up to three reasonably sized boardgames each, or one massive one like The World of Warcraft Boardgame. The Knights of Columbus will be open to the public at the time, but this has never been a problem in the past and we have held multiple events at this venue. The worst that happens is regulars come over and ask what the heck are we playing and then ask if it's anything like Risk or Monopoly.

The KofC has a good sized offering of home cooked comfort food style items. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic Beverages will also be available. As the Council is not charging us to host this event I encourage everyone to support the venue by purchasing some food and/or drink while at the event.

The KofC is is located at 1711 Walker Road between Tecumseh and Seminole.

At these events we usually play boardgames, but we have also had people there playing Star Wars Minis and various CCGs. I'm not sure exactly what games I will be bringing this time, but I am more then willing to teach any game I do bring. I also encourage others to bring games they would like to share with their fellow gamers.

If there are any requests for games to be played please let me know and I see will do what I can to accommodate.

A disclaimer: The WGR has no ties or affiliation with the Knights of Columbus or what they represent, it's just a good venue to play some games at that also happens to be free.

Theatrical Production - Les Liasons Dangereuses [Jul. 8th, 2009|04:01 pm]

Note: the set is work safe, although quite steamy as above.

Click the image for 59 more images from a production of Les Liasons Dangereuses by Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario local theatre group KWLT. Locals are highly encouraged to go see this excellent show, about love, sex, trust and betrayal. Excellent acting throughout.

Technical details
I shot the entire production during the first dress rehearsal. D200, stage lighting only. All at ISO 400. Primary lens was the 18-200 zoom, which is my main stage lens due to the image stabilizer. Some shots with the 50mm, and a handful with the 10.5 fisheye. I shot 2100 exposures, 18GB of data. I used ACDsee Pro for culling, Bibble Pro 4 for post. From first shot to upload of the final set was less than 24 hours. If I'd had more time for this, there are some things I'd touch up but on the whole I'm happy with the set.

N.B. you can hire me to take shots like this for you or your group.

Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre proudly presents:

Les Liasions Dangereuses, by Christopher Hampton

at the rebuilt Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre, located in Uptown Waterloo at 9 Princess St. E.

In her performance of 'Les Liasions Dangereuses', Director Karen Grierson moves the story from its origins in pre-Revolutionary France, to Jazz-Age Paris of the 1920s. When asked about her experiences directing this provocative play, Grierson had this to comment:Collapse )
